The low-pressure fuel supply system of diesel generator set consists of fuel tank, fuel pump, filter, etc. The entire fuel flow circuit is: fuel tank, coarse filter, fuel delivery pump, filter, fuel injection pump, fuel injector, and combustion chamber. It can be divided into two sections of low pressure oil circuit (before the fuel injection pump) and high pressure oil circuit (after the fuel injection pump). The function of the fuel tank is to store fuel, and it is generally stamped and welded with steel plates. Its capacity should usually be able to meet the needs of the diesel engine working for 8-10h.
The interior of the fuel tank is usually divided into several compartments by a partition to prevent the diesel fuel from foaming in the fuel tank due to the impact, which will affect the normal fuel supply. There are oil outlet and oil discharge port inside the fuel tank, the position of the oil outlet is higher than the oil discharge port, so that the tributaries in the fuel are deposited at the bottom of the fuel tank and prevent from flowing into the fuel system from the oil outlet. The oil drain is at the lowest position at the bottom of the fuel tank, which is used to regularly clean up the impurities deposited at the bottom of the fuel tank.
The top of the fuel tank has a fuel filler port and a vent hole. A filter screen is installed at the fuel filler port, which is filtered when the fuel is injected into the fuel tank to keep the oil clean. The vent hole is used to keep the internal space of the fuel tank connected to the atmosphere, so as to prevent the air pressure inside the fuel tank from dropping due to the decrease of the oil level during the working process, which will affect the normal fuel supply. The fuel tank is also equipped with oil measuring devices such as a dipstick.
The fuel tank should be cleaned regularly during use, and the inside of the tank should be kept clean. If the operating environment of the diesel engine is harsh, dust or rain and snow can easily be mixed into the fuel tank, which will pollute the diesel. In addition, the diesel and air in the fuel tank are in contact with the inner wall of the fuel tank for a long time, which will gradually generate some dirt that sinks to the bottom of the tank or adheres to the tank wall. These factors will cause abnormal wear and tear of the precision parts of the fuel system, so it is required that the diesel engine should clean the fuel tank once every 600h of operation.
