What are the cooling methods of diesel generator sets? The cooling form of different types and different capacities of diesel generators is not exactly the same. However, the cooling medium used is generally air, hydrogen, and water. General synchronous generator, its cooling system is closed, the cooling medium is recycled.

1, air cooling

Air cooling is the use of fan air supply, with cold air against the winding end of the diesel generator set, the stator and rotor of the generator set to blow heat dissipation, cold air after absorbing heat into hot air, the atmosphere between the stator and the rotor after the initial convergence, discharged in the air duct through the iron core, through the cooler for cooling. The cooled air is then sent to the generator by the fan for internal circulation to achieve the purpose of heat dissipation. The machine generally adopts air cooling for medium and small synchronous generator sets.

2. Hydrogen cooling

Hydrogen cooling is the use of hydrogen as a cooling medium, the heat dissipation performance of hydrogen is better than that of air, and most large turbine generators use hydrogen cooling.

3. Water cooling

Water cooling is the use of stator, rotor double water cooling method.

Cold water of the stator water system The external water system flows through the water pipe to the water inlet ring installed on several stator seats, flows through the insulated pipe to each coil, absorbs heat, and then summarizes through the insulated water pipe to the water outlet ring installed on the frame, and then drains into the external water system of the generator for cooling.

The cooling of the rotor water system first enters the water inlet support installed on the side shaft end of the exciter, and then flows into the center hole of the rotating shaft, flows along several meridian holes to the water collection tank, and then flows to each coil through the insulated pipe. After absorbing heat, the cold water flows into the outlet water tank through the insulation pipe, and then flows through the drainage holes on the outer edge of the outlet water tank to the outlet support, and then leads out from the outlet main pipe.

Because the heat dissipation performance of water is much higher than that of air and hydrogen, the generator sets of new large and medium-sized power plants are generally water-cooled.
