1. Power

Mechanical work performed per unit time of an internal combustion engine, in kW. Power has indicated power and effective power, usually referred to as the internal combustion engine power refers to the effective power, it represents the internal combustion engine from the crankshaft output net power. In order to maintain the continuous and reliable operation of the internal combustion engine, the power of the internal combustion engine is specified as follows in the national standard:

(1) 15 minutes power. The maximum effective power that allows the engine to run continuously for 15 minutes. This is a power indicator specified in order to meet the mechanical requirements with good overload and acceleration performance in a short time.

(2) 1 hour power. The maximum effective power allowed for continuous operation of the internal combustion engine for 1 hour. This is a power index specified in order to meet the mechanical requirements of sudden loading with a certain power reserve.

(3) 12 hours of power. The maximum effective power that allows the internal combustion engine to run continuously for 12 hours. This is a power indicator specified to meet the mechanical requirements of continuous operation within 12 hours. Generally, the 12-hour power is also called the rated power, and the power of the internal combustion engine usually refers to this power.

(4) Durable power. The maximum effective power that allows an internal combustion engine to operate continuously for a long time. This is a power indicator specified in order to meet the mechanical requirements of continuous operation for a long time.

The usual lasting power is 90% of the 12-hour power. Each internal combustion engine has two of the above four kinds of power and its corresponding speed marked on the nameplate according to the purpose and characteristics.

2. Thermal efficiency

The percentage of heat equivalent to the effective power to the heat energy that can be produced by the consumed fuel. It indicates the size of the effective use of fuel, the general diesel engine, gasoline engine thermal efficiency of 20% to 40%.

3. Mechanical efficiency

Ratio of effective power to indicated power of internal combustion engine. It represents the loss of power of each system inside the internal combustion engine, denoted by η. The mechanical efficiency of the general diesel engine and gasoline engine is in the following range: the non-supercharged type is 0.78 ~ 0.85, and the supercharged type is 0.80 ~ 0.92.

4. Fuel consumption rate

The amount of fuel consumed per unit of power per unit time is expressed by ge, which is an important and commonly used indicator to measure the economy of internal combustion engines, usually expressed by the fuel mass (g) consumed by 1kW power in 1 hour. General gasoline engine fuel consumption rate of 270~475g/kW.h, diesel engine fuel consumption rate of 215~340g/kW.h.
