There are many factors that affect the performance of diesel generator sets. Today, we will introduce the importance of fuel injection pumps here. The fuel injection pump is an important component of the diesel engine fuel supply system. Therefore, its working condition affects the reliability, economy and dynamics of the diesel engine. Proper maintenance is an important prerequisite to ensure the normal operation of the fuel injection pump and extend its service life. During the monitoring process, strict screening is carried out to ensure that highly clean diesel enters the fuel injection pump.
Generally speaking, diesel filtration is a more rigorous process than gasoline filtration, so we must choose a brand that is suitable for requests and deposits for at least 48 hours. Strengthen the maintenance and cleaning of diesel filters, and replace or clean them in a timely manner. Clean the fuel tank and remove fuel deposits and water. Depending on the working conditions, any impurities in the diesel can cause jam on the pump, wear or corrosion of the driving parts and fuel valves.
2. Regularly check the quality and level of the oil pan
To check the level and quality of the oil, every time we start the generator set, in addition to the forced lubrication of the fuel injection pump oil for the engine, if it mixes with water and deteriorates, the milder consequence will be the vavle of the oil and the jam and wear that reduce the engine’s power and make it very difficult to start. The more serious consequence is the corrosion of the oil valve. At the same time, problems such as internal leakage of the pump, the working condition of the oil outlet valve and the damage of the sealing ring will allow diesel to enter the oil dilution, so it becomes very important to change the engine oil and clean the oil tank thoroughly to remove impurities, such as oil deposits, to prevent the oil from malfunctioning again.
3. Regularly inspect and adjust the interval Angle of each cylinder of the fuel injection pump and the oil supply, as well as the fuel supply advance Angle.
Loose connecting bolts and camshafts, as well as the wear of rolls, often lead to changes in the fuel supply advance Angle and the fuel supply interval Angle of the cylinder, which makes it difficult for diesel to move, thus causing deterioration of diesel combustion and economic properties, difficult start-up, unstable operation, abnormal noise and overheating, etc. In practice, most people only review and adjust the overall fuel supply advance Angle, but neglect to check and adjust the fuel interval Angle (involving the adjustment of the single-pump fuel supply advance Angle). Doing so is beneficial for fuel supply in the first cylinder in a timely manner, but it strives to ensure timely fuel supply in other cylinders because of the camshaft, roller assembly, which makes it difficult to start, power shortage and operation. So it is a very important interval Angle to examine and adjust, especially for those who use it for a long time.
4. Check and adjust the oil supply to each cylinder regularly.
Fuel leakage caused by the wear of the plunger and coupling valve will reduce the oil supply or make it uneven. Therefore, it began to cause difficulties in power shortage, increase fuel consumption and unstable operation. Therefore, we should regularly review and adjust the oil supply to each cylinder to ensure that the engine operates effectively. In practice, we can determine each oil supply by observing diesel fumes, listening to the noise of the engine and touching the temperature of the exhaust pipe.
5. Regularly check the camshaft clearance.
The axial clearance of the camshaft should be strictly controlled within 0.03 to 0.15 millimeters. If the gap is too large, it will intensify the impact on the working surface applied by the transmission components, thereby increasing the early wear of the CAM surface and the oil change advance Angle. On the other hand, if the gas is too large, it may also cause the camshaft operation and the fuel regulating rod to shake. With the periodic changes in fuel supply and other issues, the engine operation is unstable. Therefore, we should regularly check and adjust the camshaft clearance. If the axial clearance of the camshaft is too large, we can adjust it by adding gaskets on both sides. If the radial clearance is too large, we usually need to replace it with a new one.
6. It is necessary to inspect and regularly coupling the sealing condition of some outlet valves.
We can determine the working condition of the rough and worn plunger and the pump by checking the outlet crude oil valve of the sealing condition. This will help determine the methods of maintenance and repair. When inspecting, we should twist the high-pressure oil pipe joints of each cylinder and use a manual pump to pump oil. If we find that there is an oil outlet at the top of the pipe joint, it indicates that the oil outlet valve is not sealed well (of course, breaking the valve spring will cause the same problem). If multiple cylinders have the same problem, then thorough debugging and maintenance should be carried out, and even the connecting parts should be replaced.
7. Use standard high-pressure oil pipelines
High-pressure diesel will be used in the fuel supply process. Due to the compressibility and flexibility of diesel in the high-pressure oil pipeline, the formation of pressure waves in the pipeline will take some time to be transmitted. The length and diameter of the high-pressure pipeline should be measured and selected to ensure the consistency of each cylinder in the oil supply and the uniformity of the fuel supply interval Angle and the steady operation of the diesel engine. Therefore, when a high-pressure oil pipe is damaged, we should replace one of the standards. In practical use, we usually do not consider the length and diameter of the pipes, so that there is a large difference between the length and diameter. However, it can be used for emergency purposes, but it will change the oil supply advance Angle and the oil supply volume of the entire machine to work. Therefore, we must use standard high-pressure oil pipes.
8. Check the wear of the relevant keyways and fixing bolts.
The relevant keyways and bolts mainly refer to the camshaft keyway, the flange keyway of the coupling (using the oil pump for power transfer through coupling), the semi-circular key and the coupling fixing bolts. Due to the long-term use of the camshaft keyway and flange keyway and semi-circular key of the fuel injection pump, the minor consequences are wear and unsafe installation of the keyway and semi-circular, and changes in the fuel supply advance Angle. In severe cases, the key is cold-rolled, leading to the failure of power transmission. Therefore, we should regularly inspect, maintain and replace worn parts.
9. Replace the worn coupling parts of the plunger and the oil outlet valve in a timely manner
When we find that the diesel engine is difficult to start, the power drops and the fuel consumption increases. We should remove the coupling part between the fuel injection pump plunger and the fuel outlet valve. If the problem cannot be improved, by adjusting the fuel pump and the fuel injector, they should be replaced in time. The plunger and the fuel outlet valve have worn to a certain extent and have not been used any more.
10. Maintain the correct method for injecting pump parts.
We must ensure that the pump side cover, dipstick, fuel plug (breather), overflow valve, oil tank screw block, oil level screw, oil pump bolt, these accessories play a very important role in the injection pump, for example, in terms of working performance. The side cover prevents the invasion of dust, moisture and other impurities. The mask (with filter) can effectively prevent the deterioration of engine oil. The oil spill valve ensures that the fuel system has a certain pressure to prevent air from entering. Therefore, we must enhance the maintenance of these accessories and replace them in a timely manner. Once we find any damage, they will be lost immediately.
