Under normal circumstances, Cummins diesel generator sets are equipped with self-start function, its main function is, when the mains power failure (or other important unit signals), the diesel generator set will automatically start after delay to ensure that the generator set can normally supply power to the load. After the city is normal, delay confirmation automatic cooling stop. Starting the engine requires the right amount of clean air and fuel to be supplied to the combustion chamber at the exact time.
The following are the correct startup steps for Cummins diesel generator sets:
If the fuel system is equipped with an overspeed stop, press the reset button before starting the engine.
1. On the engine equipped with the pneumatic pre-lubrication device, open the air valve leading to the working piston of the pre-lubrication device. The air valve will lubricate all moving parts in the engine.
Note: For engines with oil pressure alarm switches, keep the fuel bypass switch (i.e., the start switch) in the “start” position until the engine oil pressure reaches 48 to 69 kPa; Then move it to the “Run” position.
2. Adjust throttle to idle position and separate engine from drive mechanism.
Note: To protect the supercharger during startup, do not open the throttle or accelerate the engine speed beyond 1000 RPM until the oil pressure gauge has idle oil pressure.
3. When the switch is on, the electric stop valve can work. The electric cut-off valve has a manual knob at the front end to open the cut-off valve in case of circuit failure and the electric cut-off valve closes the oil line. When the manual knob is turned clockwise, the valve can be opened; After repairing the circuit, you can switch it to its normal working position.
Note: Checks should be carried out before starting to ensure that everyone is off the engine and equipment to prevent accidents.
4. Pull the relief lever (if equipped), press the starter button, or turn the key switch to the “Start” position. After three or four seconds of rotation, lower the relief lever and continue turning the engine until it catches fire.
Note: In order to prevent damage to the starter, the continuous starting time of the engine shall not exceed 30 seconds. If the engine does not fire within the first 30 seconds, start it again within a minute or two.
5. When the Cummins diesel generator set starts for the first time or starts the engine after changing the oil or filter, stop the engine for a few minutes after running and wait for the spare oil to flow back to the oil pan for 15 minutes. Double check the engine oil level and add more if necessary so that the oil level reaches the high (H) value on the dipstick. The drop in oil level is due to the oil filter absorbing some of the oil. Do not start the engine when the oil level is below or above the high mark.
