Although it is summer now, with the gradual arrival of winter, we will soon welcome the autumn and winter seasons. Under such climatic conditions, how to choose a diesel generator set?
Since most diesel generator sets are mainly cooled by water tanks, in such climates, the cooling water in the water tanks is particularly prone to freezing, which can cause damage to the water tanks and result in unnecessary losses. Here, Beidou Power Generation Equipment Factory suggests purchasing water jacket heaters for diesel generator sets or using air-cooled diesel generator sets.
Advantages of air-cooled diesel generator sets:
When the gas temperature of an air-cooled diesel engine is constant, the higher the cylinder wall temperature, the less heat the diesel engine emits into the air. Therefore, the heat efficiency is higher and the fuel economy is better. Generally, the cylinder wall temperature of an air-cooled diesel generator is dozens of times higher than that of a water-cooled diesel engine, so its thermal efficiency is higher than that of a water-cooled diesel generator. As air-cooled diesel engines transfer less heat to the air, their cooling air volume is only about two-thirds of that of water-cooled diesel engines. Coupled with the low power consumption of fans, the fuel consumption rate of air-cooled diesel generators is also lower.
Practical application has proved that over 25-30% of the faults of water-cooled diesel generators are caused by the cooling system. However, air-cooled diesel generators do not have a water cooling system, so their failure rate is approximately 27% lower than that of water-cooled diesel generators. Air-cooled diesel engines will not cause any problems such as corrosion, cavitation, rust, or the accumulation of scale in the cylinder block, cylinder head, and radiator. Therefore, air-cooled diesel generator sets are more suitable for war environments. They will not lose their combat effectiveness due to being hit and leaking water.
The normal service life of a diesel engine mainly depends on the wear condition of the friction pairs such as the piston assembly and the cylinder liner. The wear of important components such as cylinder liners mainly depends on the length of time the engine operates below the dew point. Due to the high and rapid temperature rise of the cylinder wall of the air-cooled diesel engine, acidic corrosion and wear are avoided to the greatest extent.
4. The temperature difference between the radiator of a water-cooled diesel generator and the surrounding air is small because the temperature of the radiator is limited by the boiling point of water. The average heat dissipation surface temperature of the cylinder head of an air-cooled diesel generator is 170 degrees, which has a greater temperature difference with the surrounding air. Even in a hot environment, there is no risk of overheating and boiling like that of a water-cooled diesel generator.
5. The air-cooled diesel generator can still start well and work reliably at minus 35 degrees Celsius, without the risk of cracking the body due to freezing, nor does it require antifreeze or water heaters. Air-cooled diesel generators are not afraid of water shortage when used in arid desert areas. When used in high-altitude low-pressure areas, they will not have the phenomenon of cooling water boiling over like water-cooled diesel generators. When used in coastal saline-alkali areas, the cylinder block and cylinder liner will not be damaged due to direct erosion by cooling water.
