Engine idling fault maintenance skills

Different types of car engines have different idle speed ratings, such as Santana car engine idle speed rating of (850±50)r/min. If the engine idle speed value is lower than or exceeds the specified range, there will be stage flameout, speed instability and other phenomena. When these phenomena occur, the fault should be judged, checked and eliminated in time.

a. How to distinguish poor idle speed?

A normal engine should be able to operate evenly in the speed range of 300-500r/min. If the low and stable engine speed exceeds this speed range, or the engine stalls and the speed is unstable in this speed range, it is no idle speed or poor idle speed. When the idle speed is poor, it can be divided into idle stalling, idle instability and excessive idle speed according to its fault characteristics. If the engine starts, runs well from low speed to high speed, but flares out immediately after releasing the accelerator pedal, or runs unstable and then flares out first, it is the idle flares fault. If the engine idling operation is not stable, the exhaust pipe makes a “sudden, sudden” sound, it is generally an unstable idle fault. If the low stable engine speed is higher than the specified range, and the speed cannot be reduced, the idle speed is too high or there is no idle fault.

b. How to adjust the idle speed?

The adjustment of idle speed must be carried out under normal conditions such as normal engine temperature, proper valve clearance, normal ignition system condition, good sealing of all pipes, full open choke, and tight closing of throttle valve. When adjusting, first screw out the throttle opening adjustment screw to make the engine reach a low and stable speed. Then use a screwdriver to screw in the idle speed adjustment screw, when the engine is about to turn off, and then slowly screw out the idle speed adjustment screw, so that the engine runs stably and reaches high speed. Then screw out the throttle opening adjustment screw to make the engine speed as low as possible. Then adjust the idle speed adjustment screw to increase the engine speed. This is repeated until the throttle is small (close to closed) and the engine is running at a low and stable speed. Then increase the speed and suddenly close the throttle, so that the engine is still running.

c. What should I do if I idle?

When the engine is idle, the idle speed should be adjusted according to the actual situation (if the cause of the fault is clear, it can also be directly repaired). If the fault disappears after adjustment, the idle screw is improperly adjusted. After adjustment, if the fault can not disappear, the throttle can be opened larger, so that the engine can keep running, check whether the carburetor, intake manifold liner with cotton yarn or paper strip, if no leakage, you can remove the idle metering hole for inspection, and blow the idle oil channel at the same time, and then reinstall the test, then if the fault disappears, it indicates that the idle metering hole and idle oil channel are blocked. For the carburetor equipped with idle stop valve, should also check the idle stop valve solenoid circuit is normal, if the electromagnetic coil circuit is abnormal and caused by the idle fuel saving hole blocked, the idle stop valve should be repaired.
